Become-a-ceo

We often come along the terms ‘Career Planning’ and ‘career orientation’ etc. Whenever we are about to be graduated and we are just going to start our practical career, it’s a natural concern that haunts us “What will be our career? How should I plan it?” Same is the case with me, currently.

“Sharing is Caring.”

This statement is so true. Sharing anything with our family, friends, Colleagues and with even strangers makes the both participants happy and builds the strong relationship.

One of my mentor Javed Akhtar always used to say: “When it comes to knowledge steal it shamelessly but, when it comes to sharing spread it honestly.”

I always find happiness to share my knowledge, my joys, my cheers and almost everything with others, (except my crush :P). It brings happiness and nourishes our relationship. The moment from I joined Amal Family, I always try to share my ideas and knowledge within the Amal Family to my best. And I am glad they find it beneficial too. Same is the case with my other friends.

I always share with them that what’s happening in the sessions and what I am learning over there and they get to know about the Amal Fellowship and Amal Family.

But this time I got the official opportunity to involve them into my fellowship experience. As this week I was assigned to share following tips as a project. So that they can also learn from the session and me could get a chance to better understand the 6 tips.

I shared the following tips with one of my friend because he is really interested in learning such type of new things that related to career. He listened to me very carefully and found these tips beneficial too. I also asked reflection question after explaining each tip that whether he is agree or not?

Tip 1: Do an internship before pursuing a higher degree to confirm if you like that field/industry:

He disagree with the concept.

He said that you mean to say, keep doing internships one after another until you find a job of interest? And I was blank. On this point I agree with him. He said that if we will continue to switch our internships then we might not end with any job of interest.

He said that parameter to find a better job should be interest, but it doesn’t mean to do a lot of internships to find a job of interest. And not everyone can get internships easily. He said job descriptions are publically available and you can find everything from job descriptions. Even better is that try to find your job of interest by discussing with peers.

He said we should go for jobs which will provide us maximum learning. And it will help us to leave our comfort zone. There is no concept of good or bad job, just find job which matches to your passion and future goals and try to develop your interest in that job. He concludes that this is my perception, your approach might be different. So, jump into the market and try to explore your perception.

In the end I said that as a fresh graduate and after 16 years of academic education and being out of the university with the professional degree, we need a field touch to check the interest in the respective field.

Tip 2: Don’t do PhD if you want to be an entrepreneur or work in corporate sector:

The person strongly agreed with the concept.

He said it is obvious that if we are pursuing for a business startup, then we must go for the initiative. As the idea it self makes it clear that if we want to pursue the business for entrepreneurship, we must get to know the pros and cons of the market business and the trends. Which is only possible by diving into the market, and perform SWOT analysis on the businesses of your interest. Come up with strong conclusions whether this business have required potential or not.

He also said that, industry requires vast knowledge of the customer’s needs and wants, which validates the above mentioned tip.

Tip 3: Spend at least one year in your first job:

The person partially agreed with the concept.

The reason of agreement was the bad impression on your resume for switching your job after having some taste of it, which shows that you are not a consistent person. The reason of the disagreement was the realistic problems and factors of the field environment. If someone gets a better offer and environment or the conditions are not suitable for him, if he thinks that his growth is getting stopped there, then he must skip the job.

Tip 4: Find your passion and align it with your career:

He totally agreed with the concept.

He said it is the best choice one can make for his/her career. If you are passionate about some work you will enjoy it you will be innovative in that particular field. If you are doing something by your heart, the work performance is definitely going to excel your career and vice versa if you are just working and digesting it to make a living.

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.”

Tip 5: Decisions are very unique to each person, what’s right for one isn’t right for the other:

Well, he agreed to the point.

He said we should have made decision wisely and before taking action we should consult it with others also, just to check our decision from other’s prospective and then we should polish it and make a final decision. What’s right for one isn’t right for the other.

He said, every person has his own life, own interests, own passions and the most of all, which are the priorities.

Tip 6: Own your decisions: Don’t let other people make decisions for you and don’t blame anyone else:

He strongly agreed to the concept.

He said that accepting your decisions and accepting your resulting failures and even the positivity is a part of your personality.

He quoted: “Making bad decisions is part of life. Blaming others for your bad decisions is immature.”

I learned that these tips are very helpful in the successful life and career and will try to incorporate this in my life. Everyone should!
